José Luis Sánchez in avemundi has been asking in the Planeta Código forum whether he should release a limited version of his software, or a free version. It turns out that a reasonably well controlled experiment of this question has been carried out: Why Do People Register, Does Crippling Work, Does Anybody Really Know? by Colin Messitt. The sad conclusion is that if the user doesn't have to pay for some functionality that she requires, then she wont. It is up to the author of the software to create some kind of appropriate reason for the potential user to buy.



Testing XPlorer

Javier Gutiérrez Chamorro (Guti) in Bitácora de Guti announces the release of the Alpha version 0.40.113 of his XPlorer, a multi-tabbed file manager and replacement for the standard Windows Explorer. He is asking for people to test it and report any problems as the applications is almost ready to enter the Beta phase of development.
