Comparison of Java rameworks
Comparativa de frameworks Java

jbravo in  Programando... comments on the post by Raible Designs on the numbers of job demands for people using specific Java Frameworks which shows that Struts is the clear winner. He wonders to what extent the same is true of Spain. jbravo says that in the last few months all his jobs have been using Struts except one using Swing. The only thing to bear in mind,  however, is that the Struts jobs were modifications or additions to old programs, whereas the Swing job was a new development.

Bad Practices 3
Mala práctica 3

Javier Gutiérrez Chamorro (Guti) in  Bitácora de Guti continues his series on Bad Practices (1, 2) by showing this image of a section of HTML code. In it, the indentation has become irregular. The reasons such sitations arise may be:

  • insufficiently defined indentation rules and different people indenting differently; some 2 using spaces, some 4 and others using the TAB.
  • massive search and replace operations. While these can save time and are a good use of the tools, some of the time saved should be given back in checking that the existing indentation has not been broken.
  • conversions of DOS<->NIX. The double line breaks in the example suggest that such conversion has taken place at some time. DOS uses the convention \r\n to terminate lines, while NIX uses \n.
