The Notifier  (El Avisador)

Jose A. Suárez in  chochurro introduces a new service of reading feeds, El Avisador. Rather than setting up a local RSS reader using a web based service, El Avisador sends the new content to your e-mail inbox hourly or daily as you prefer. [The list of sources available is fairly short at present and are mostly in the Spanish language.]

La comunidad: Pointer to (void)

In the backroom,  Luis Belloch, author of Pointer to (void) presents a short bio:

My name is Luis Belloch, I am 23 and come from Valencia. For the last 3 years I have been working as a .NET developer, mostly in C# and C++. In spite of being a Windows developer, I have been leaning towards Linux and soon hope to be able to code for both platforms. I finished my computing studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia of which I retain fond memories, especially as a graduate of Fine Arts. Quite an experience! Apart from my work I maintain a web log, Pointer to (void), where I am recording the thoughts about software that come to mind. Most of all I want to be a good developer.

What do I have on-board? (¿Qué hay en mi dock?)

Cesar Tardaguila in  design-nation recently purchased the Mac Mini (see his review if only for the pictures) and writes about the software that he has installed and found to be very useful.

In the first place comes  QuickSilver which allows him to operate the Mac with the keyboard and the most ingenious interface that he has ever seen. The next program is  iRooster  that wakes the machine up at predetermined times and can launch other applications at the same time. He uses it to wake him up in the morning with music while it downloads the e-mail and the latest news from his RSS feeds. He uses  NewsFire as his RSS reader for news and Podcasts and likes its user interface very much. While working he uses  DEVONThink to organize his notes and web clips. The FTP client he uses is  Transmit which handles SSL and server to server copying. For leisure he is pleased with  Comic Life which he uses to create comics from photos. The combination of  Mac the Ripper and  Roxio Popcorn are ideal for making backup copies. And if there is still space on the hard disk, why not try  Matinee.

[I am beginning to hear a lot of people using the Mac Mini and am wondering if I should have a look at it myself!]

...products (... productos)

Alberto Molpeceres in  Y si hablamos de... remarks that very few software products have been made in Spain. The reason could be that you can get a larger and quicker profit from in-house projects. Maybe this is what makes Spanish developers reluctant to make the investment in development, publicity, documentation, maintenance etc. For one, he would like to be able to develop a real product, one that he could feel proud of and one that he could enjoy. Then we can see if it will sell. His company is Linking Paths.

I want Core data! (¡Yo quiero Core Data!)

Cesar Tardaguila in design-nation introduces his readers to Core Data. This is a powerful data model framework for the Mac for building applications based on  the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern. For more details, see the links in his article. He would like a similar system for developing applications in actionScript and Java, and he wants it now!

Release of Windows Mobile 5.0 (Acaba de salir Windows Mobile 5.0)

RFOG in  Nación .NET reports that a few hours ago, Microsoft announced the release of  Windows Mobile 5.0 .This new release is apparently a continuation of  Windows CE 5.0 and is tightly linked with Visual Studio 2005.

WP-Morph version 1.1 is coming (WP-Morph 1.1 se acerca)

Diego Sevilla in  diego sevilla writes that he developed  WP-Morph (an anti-spam plugin for  WordPress) some time ago and that some people have used it successfully. Therefore he is now starting to develop version 1.1 which will address one of the three ways in which the plugin can be cracked.
