C is dead. Long live C! (El C ha muerto. ¡Viva el C!)

Rfog in  Nación .NET takes issues with those commentators, including Guti,  and so called experts who say that C/C++ may have less than 10 years of life. While people may not be using these languages directly in creating new software for the PC, almost all microprocessors will continue to be programmed in C and C++. And microprocessors are being found in almost any consumer article these days, including several peripherals of the PC itself. Until new chips are produced that can be programmed in a languages other than C/C++ then these languages will continue to have a productive future.

Installing a Wiki (Instalar un Wiki)

Juanjo Navarro in  más que código has had a little experience in installing Wikis for Planeta Codigo and writes about a few that he tried.

Instiki is very easy to install, but that is because it is built in Ruby and includes its own web server. There are not too many hosting companies that will allow you to do that!

MoinMoin is  a Wiki written in Python. It seems to have a thousand options; and this is what made it difficult to install. A lot of these options will not be used by most installations.

DokuWiki is a Wiki in PHP that claims that it is for the creation of documents. It was easy to install but does not have a good template system so it is difficult to customize its appearance. This is the Wiki that is being used by Planeta Código. (I think Juanjo has done a nice job in customizing it to fit in to the style of his site.)

PmWiki is another Wiki written in PHP. It was installed in the trials of Wikis, but not worked on further.

Others: He tried installing  MediaWiki but experienced a problem with the version of MySQL that is provided by his hosting company. In playing with the Wikis, one of the things he realized was how easily Wiki users could specify all kinds of formatting using very simple markup. One particular Wiki,  UniWakka, written for the educational environment even supports MathML which is a language for defining the atomic structures of molecules that can be manipulated on the page.

The installs of the various Wikis are still available on the site (the addresses are given in the forum message:  Instalar un Wiki.). Now that the Planet Código Wiki is up and running, all that is required is for a few people to start using it!
