Joserra in Najaraba.com asks if the development of free software is different from that of commercial software. The main characteristics of development of free software are claimed to be: revision by peers, published results, work by volunteers and versions released by engineers (rather than business folk). There is a certain parallel between these characteristics and the method of scientific investigation. But how often are these theoretical characteristics actually found in practice? In the end, although the methods of development of free versus commercial software may be different, it is not at all clear than either is any better than the other. Javier Gutiérrez Chamorro (Guti) in Bitácora de Guti writes that there are lots of advantages of using javascript to assist in navigation between pages. But is there a way to ensure that new links open even for users who do not have javascript enabled? The solution he proposes is this: dsevilla in diego sevilla writes: WP-Morph is now on version 1.2. You can download it here. And read the README. You can even browse its source code Carlos Rovira in carlosrovira.com reports that the plugin Flashout version 2 has been released. This is a fundamental release if you are using FAMES and are developing in Eclipse 3.1 and J2SE 1.5. The main functionality is: support for the MAC OS and Linux (FAMES at last becomes multi platform), editable HTML template, new system of log files, key bindings such as CTRL + ENTER to speed common tasks. If you haven't tried open source Flash yet, now is a good time to try. Carlos Rovira in carlosrovira.com writes: Thanks to an e-mail from Michael Hansen in the list, osFlash, we can see some examples of the current state of ActionStep, the open source component framework compatible with MTASC. |
