Introduction to web metrics part IV
Introducción a las métricas web (Parte VI)

jleyva in  Métricas Web continues his series on web metrics with a summary of the metric: web page search and retrieval.

Web page search and retrieval metrics measure and compare the processes of sending and retrieving of information. There are two categories:

  • Effectiveness. The efficiency of recovery of information from the web is measured with two metrics: precision and recall. Precision is the proportion of pages returned which are relevant for the search and recall measures the grade of the relevant pages returned from the search.
  • Search engine comparison. In order to compare the quality of different search engines, there are some key metrics:
    • Coverage. This measures the number of results returned by each engine.
    • Relevance. One metric is the proportion of interesting results returned by a search engine across a number of terms. A second metric is the proportion of results returned from different search engines with respect to a specific term.
    • Performance. This is the time taken to perform the search and return the results to the user.

El futuro de Borland C++ Builder

rfog in  Diario de un Programador speculates on the support by Borland of the C++ language in its  Borland C++ 2005. He wonders if it will support refactoring, a functionality that Microsoft have apparently not been able to achieve in their product. What does appear clear is that only Win32 is supported and not .NET.

Methodologies up to the eyebrows
Metodologías hasta en la sopa

Juanjo Navarro in  más que código announces that he has posted an article in Version Zero that discusses the function and utility of the various methodologies that have been appearing in recent years. As a not insignificant inducement to click on the link, the article has a photo of Juanjo where he is not lying down and not wearing a dickie bow (tie).
