Computation shouldn't be human: it should be SIMPLE

In this post, clbustos claims that we don't expect cars to be more human; their simple controls and method of locomotion has nothing to do with the way we walk, yet after a short period of training their behaviour is predictable and we are able to use them effectively. So it should be with computing. As an example, a more "human" solution to the problem of getting the weather forecast might be to create a complex system of voice recognition that can obtain the information and present it for you. The simple solution is to create a button which is labeled "Weather forecast". The first requires a huge amount of complex computation that will probably not work well. The second requires only that a person learns to move a mouse and click on a button. We shouldn't be thinking about our generation for whom computers are a novelty, but rather at the younger generation for whom they will become a natural part of life.
