jasm in  chochurro writes about his first steps in using Linux. He installs Ubuntu on the second hard disk on his PC. Then he installs WINE and MySQL. Soon after, he succeeds in running his Windows touch screen point of sale program under Linux. He is very pleased with his progress, especially as he hasn't had to bother anyone to get this far.

Joserra in  Najaraba.com refers back to an article by Joel Spolksy, Good Software Takes Ten Years. Get Used To it. Joserra himself has recently left a multinational to join a small company (another story), but has watched the technical development of a product over 6 years. It is only now that the development team are beginning to be proud of their work. The product passed through many phases: application servers that died, open source servers, drastic decisions regarding frameworks, resolution of some pesky bugs ..., and suddenly it has become stable, easy to install, to modify, to enjoy. Joel was talking about the functionality of software in his article, but the technical architecture can take 5 years minimum to get right.

 

T-Gtk Release 0.5

Rafa Carmona in  Thefull announces the release of T-Gtk version 0.5 (GUI for [x]Harbour to use the GTK+ toolkit). The main functionality introduced into this version is a tool made in T-Gtk for creating makefiles. The tool can be downloaded from the T-Gtk group on Yahoo.
