Reflection by Jonathan Schwartz about free software

jbravo in Programando... posts a link to an article by Jonathan Schwartz, Free Grows Revenue - Just Ask Your Carrier. Jonathan is president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems and posted his blog entry following the announcement that Java Enterprise System, Developer Tools and N1 Software will be available at no cost. This key quote from the article explains the philosophy of free software and why “betting against free software is like betting against gravity”:

“Because no Fortune 2000 customer on earth is going to run the heart of their enterprise with products that don't have someone's home number on the other end. And no developer or developing nation, presented with an equivalent or better free and open source product, is going to opt for a proprietary alternative.”

Juan Palacio in Navegapolis posts a link to the slides he presented at the “Master de Dirección de Sistemas del Instituto de Empresa”: Visión ejecutiva de procesos y prácticas para desarrollo de software (Executive vision of processes and practices for software development). This is a very interesting and useful set of slides covering the major methodologies, both tradition and formal, for the development of software, and many are easily understood without knowing any Spanish.
